The medieval manor was an agricultural estate. A manor was a patch of land that was owned by a lord. Lords would give land to Noble’s in exchange for the Noble to work for the lord. Surfs worked on lands, kinda like slaves. A surf could have many different jobs from a carpenter to a blacksmith the surf did it all. A surf could only be free if the lord would let them go, or they could buy there freedom. Manors came in many different sizes from 750 to 1500 acres.
Manors also had woods, gardens, and lakes or ponds where fish could be found. A manor was the lowest building block in the pyramid of the feudal system. another important part of a manor was a church, or cathedral. Many people looked for jobs in this part of the manor. people went here to pray, work, and of course for church.
